Greek climate is ideal and allows men to work outdoors all day and almost all year long. So, men, in order to rest and protect themselves from various weather conditions, built Arcades, a semi-open structure.

An Arcade is a long structure, consisting of a long and narrow hallway with columns. It was a success and through time it became a necessary part in almost all buildings. There are arcades at the temples, houses, gymnasiums, religious and merchant centers. In Athens, one of the most famous arcades was the “Vasilios”, where vasileys one of the nine magistrates of the city, performed his duties. On the arcade’s facade there were columns with Solon s laws written on them. Another famous arcade, was the “Poikili Arcade” that was a decorated arcade. She took that name from the paintings covering its walls.
